Compare noise at a useful operating setting

Ask for the indoor sound figures at the fan settings you are likely to use, plus the outdoor-unit figures. A quoted quietest mode may have lower airflow than the setting needed to cool a hot room quickly.

Plan airflow around the bed

Show the installer the bed position, wardrobes, curtains and planned furniture changes. Ask where air will travel and whether it can avoid blowing directly towards your pillow. Make sure there is space to open the unit for filter cleaning.

The outdoor position matters too. Ask about mounting, vibration, service access, drainage and nearby windows. A short pipe run can simplify a job, but the proposed position also needs to work for the people using the room and surrounding properties.

Explain when the room gets hot

Tell the installer whether the bedroom is in a loft, faces strong afternoon sun or retains heat overnight. Note the glazing, blinds and insulation, and whether the door usually stays closed. These details help the sizing discussion.

Use the handover to learn the timer, fan direction, display-light settings and sleep controls. A clear schedule is more useful than repeatedly switching between very low temperature settings. Ask the installer to demonstrate the controls you will use most.

Check the finished installation
